‘Cilla Black came in the changing room when we played Arsenal – but I was naked’

Leroy Lita was caught short during his time at Reading after Cilla Black was invited into the dressing room – and he was naked.

The former Reading striker, who played for the club between 2005 and 2009 and helped them into the Premier League, wasn't expecting the legendary late singer and presenter to arrive.

The 38-year-old, who is still smashing home goals in non-league football, detailed the unfortunate meeting when appearing on the Undr The Cosh podcast.

Lita said: "We were playing Arsenal away, I was b****** naked, standing there and Cilla Black is just in the changing room.

"She used to just come in and wish the lads good luck with the chairman because he used to come in before every game and bring all his celebrity friends."

Referring to her presenting of hit show Surprise Surprise between 1984 and 2001, former Preston striker Jon Parkin said: "I bet that was a surprise for her!"

Cilla, who passed away at the age of 72 back in 2015, was a fan of Reading through her friendship with former chairman Sir John Madejski

Speaking about their relationship after his passing in the Daily Mail, Sir John said: "She was my soulmate. I’ve a great love for Cilla – I always have had, and I always will."

Cilla was also a huge fan of her local side Liverpool, being snapped with Bill Shankly as part of TV series back in 1971.

Sky Sports is bringing you 500 live football games to watch, as well access to Cricket, Golf, F1, Boxing, NFL, NBA and more across eight dedicated channels. Sky Sports is the only way to watch all the action this year.

Sir John added: "I will miss her deeply, but I will remember all the fantastic times we shared – from going up to see her in pantomime in Liverpool, to time spent with her in Barbados and back here at Madejski Stadium of course.

"Liverpool has spawned many great artists and Cilla's story is a complete fairytale come true.

"She was very engaging as a person, she had a view on everything – she was just the most wonderful human being to know. I'll miss her friendship very much indeed."
